Stanovice is a small town known primarily for the sculptures related to Christmas in the surrounding forests.
At the beginning of the 18th century, Count Franz Anton von Sporck commissioned the sculptor Matthias Bernard Braun to create a set of monumental sculptures referring to the Christmas theme. They were to become part of a religious complex where guests of the nearby Kuks spa could meditate and rest in an atmosphere of reflection.
The project provided for the creation of not only sculptures and Christmas grottoes, but also 2 monasteries and places of prayer and rest. For all these attractions, the count allocated his own areas previously used for hunting.
Only a small part of the Christmas Sculptures has survived to this day. Only the foundations of the monasteries are left, and the restored Christmas grotto is in the best condition from other places. You can reach the Sculptures via the educational trail that starts in the village of Kuks.
