Travnik is a historic city with a well-preserved Turkish Old Town, the main structure of which is the Suleiman Mosque, decorated with paintings. Around it there is a tangle of streets with shops and restaurants, and a medieval fortress towers over the town.

Thanks to its location on the trade route leading to Sarajevo, Travnik developed during the Turkish rule as a thriving trade and craft center. In its center was the Czarszija - bazaar district with numerous stalls and craft workshops. It was focused around the city's main mosque, the 16th century Suleiman Mosque, known as the Color Mosque. Today it is Travnik's biggest attraction. The walls of the mosque are covered with polychrome from the outside, and its ground floor with arcades served in the past as a bezisten, i.e. a market hall. Currently, it houses mainly souvenir shops.

There are two clock towers in the old town of Travnik and it is the only city in Bosnia with two such buildings. The first one stands in the heart of the old town, while the second one, the clock tower on Musala, is located on a small hill above the buildings. Above the city, there is also the Stari Grad fortress, built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. In its tower you can see an ethnographic exhibition devoted to the culture of people from the vicinity of Travnik. There is also a Regional Museum in the city and a biographical museum of the Nobel Prize-winning author at Ivo Andric's Birthplace.
