Smolyan is a holiday and ski resort in the Rhodope Mountains. There are several dozen kilometers of downhill and cross-country ski runs. In summer, the surrounding mountains are a good place for active tourism.
The city is located at the foot of the Snezhanka peak, which is almost 2,000 m above sea level. At the top, there is the Śnieżka Tower, visible from a distance, which is a transmission mast.
Although Smolyan experiences its greatest tourist siege in winter, tourists are also eager to come here in summer. There are many picturesque hiking trails in the area, such as the Nevystata Trail or the Smolensk Lakes Trail. From this area, you can go to Sneżanka by the Smolensk Lakes - Sneżanka peak. Another popular destination is the Smolyan Waterfall and the Orpheus Rocks.
