Kazanłyk is an important tourist center at the foot of Stara Planina. It is called the City of Roses because of the huge cultivation of these flowers, which are the symbol of Bulgaria. There is also a Thracian tomb inscribed on the UNESCO list.
Kazanłyk is most visited by tourists between May and July. This is when the rose season is at its peak. Rose bushes bloom in the surrounding fields, and the flowers are used to produce, among others, famous rose oil. In the city, you can also visit the Rose Museum, and the whole area is called the Rose Valley. Every year there is also a Rose Festival with a parade and elections of the Tsarina Róża.
In terms of history, the city is one of the most valuable in the country. The Thracian Tomb, which is the most important attraction of Kazanlak, was discovered here, covered with wonderful paintings. In the vicinity there are also ruins of a Thracian temple and the remains of buildings from Thracian and Greek times.
The Kazanlak center is built up with traction houses from the period of the Bulgarian National Revival. Some of them have been separated into the Kulata Ethnographic Complex, where you can see what the life of the city's inhabitants looked like in the past. There is also an interesting Church of St. Prophet Elijah. The image of attractions is completed by the local museums, the Historical Museum, the Chudomir Museum of Literature and Art and the Art Gallery.
