Barcos de piedra Anundhog

Nombre local: Anundshög skeppssättningarna

The Anundhog stone ships are on the outskirts of Västerås, close to the hiking trail. They are part of the largest preserved burial mound in Sweden, measuring over 64 m in diameter and 9 m in height. The mound was built between the Bronze Age and the Late Iron Age, most likely between 210-540 AD

The two stone ships at the foot of the mound are 51 m and 53 m long, respectively. Stone ships were a common burial custom in Scandinavia and the Baltic states. In their center there was a tomb or a cremation site, and around them, slabs or stones were placed, creating the shape of a ship. Hence their name.

Right next to the mound is a massive granite monument known as the Badelunda Runestone. The inscriptions carved on it are dated to the 11th century.
