Hallandsgården is an open-air museum located in Halland, mapping the look and feel of a traditional Swedish village. It consists of a dozen or so historic farms, wooden huts, stables, a brewery, a windmill, a sauna and a village school. There are crops, herbs, hops and flowers in front of the houses. The workers can often be seen in traditional national costumes.
Hallandsgården has a charming café and a large playground for children. In summer, cultural events with music, folk dance shows and handicraft exhibitions are regularly held here. There are collections of folk paintings, textiles and exhibits related to the history of the city and the region. A significant part of the collection consists of photographs and archival documents.
The history of Hallandsgården dates back to 1925. It was founded on the initiative of the producer Alfred W. Wallberg, inspired by a visit to the open-air museum in Stockholm.
