The picturesque Northern Cape of Öland is the perfect place for a day trip. Its northeastern part is covered by Trollskogen, an old coniferous forest with gnarled pines and sprawling oaks. On one of the beaches, you can see the abandoned wreck of the Swiks schooner, which was washed ashore in 1926.
One of the main attractions is the lighthouse bearing the same name, the Northern Cape of Öland. It was built in the mid-19th century on a small island right next to the cape. It has the form of a white cylindrical tower, 32 meters high, with 138 steps leading to its top. In the summer season, it is open to the public.
The fauna of the cape is also noteworthy, especially the birds that can be found here in large numbers. You can meet here both popular species, such as finches, robins, thrushes, falcons and hawks, as well as those less common and protected, including white-tailed eagles and Siberian flushing mounds.
