Monasterio del humor
Nombre local: Mănăstirea Humorului
The historic monastery was built in 1530 on the foundations of an older, 15th-century monastery. The church located in it belongs to the group of unique, painted Orthodox churches scattered all over the Romanian Bukovina. Along with seven other temples, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The church is entirely covered with frescoes. The paintings adorning its outer walls are one of the best-preserved examples of Bukovyna church paintings. They present historical scenes, such as the defense of Constantinople against the Persians in 626, biblical scenes, including the parable of the prodigal son and the lives of saints, including st. Nicholas.
Inside the temple, you can see a series of paintings depicting, among others The Last Supper and the Lord's Passion. In the center of the dome there is a large fresco depicting Christ Pantocrator.
