The Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest was built by order of Prince Constantine I Erban. Construction lasted from 1654 to 1658. The facade of the cathedral is in the Brâncovenesc style, also known as the Romanian Renaissance.
The temple was richly decorated with frescoes and carvings, but they were almost completely destroyed. From the original icons, only the one depicting the patrons of the temple, Emperor Constantine and his brand of St. Helena. The frescoes and paintings that we can see today were made in 1923 by Dimitrie Belizarie.
