Medieval Bran Castle is probably the most popular place in all of Transylvania and maybe all of Romania. This is related to the famous book by Bram Stoker, who described the castle as the seat of the vampire Dracula. It is worth noting, however, that the prototype of this character, Vlad the Impaler, never lived in Bran, and his seat was at the Poenari Castle.
The castle was erected on the border with Wallachia as an important defensive point, guarding the trade route. It was built by the Teutonic Knights. The stronghold was rebuilt many times and passed from hand to hand. From 1920, it served as the summer residence of Maria, Queen of Romania.
Today it houses a historical museum. Inside, you can see an exhibition devoted to Queen Maria and the history of the castle, including interesting armor and court clothes from the 16th century.
