Vyškov is a historic town dating back to medieval times. The buildings of the old town with the castle and the Renaissance town hall have been preserved here. On the outskirts of the city there is a zoo connected with a dinosaur park.
The city was founded in the 12th century and belonged to the bishopric in Olomouc. It was destroyed several times in its history during various wars and invasions. For this reason, many buildings in the old town, despite the gothic walls, have a later, baroque or nineteenth-century appearance.
The most important monuments in Vyškov include the originally gothic castle rebuilt in the baroque style in the 17th century and surrounded by a castle garden, the late gothic church of the Assumption of the Mother of God, the square with the Renaissance town hall and plague column and the remains of the city walls.
The big attraction of Vyškov is the DinoPark Vyškov on the outskirts of the town. It is a combination of a zoo, mini-museum and a park with life-size models of dinosaurs.
