Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Tribunal

The beautiful church of Saint Francis Xavier is considered a pearl of baroque architecture and is the most artistically valuable monument in Piotrków. The miraculous image of Our Lady of the Tribunal (patroness of Polish parliamentarians) is worshiped here, and was crowned in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. The interior of the temple is richly decorated. It is worth paying attention to the baroque polychrome, rococo and baroque sculptures and gilded altars.

The construction of the church began in 1701, but its history was quite turbulent. In 1731, a few years after its consecration, the church was destroyed by fire. In 1773, the Jesuit Order was dissolved, after which the Piarist fathers took over the church. After regaining independence, the church was again taken over by the Jesuits, but only until World War II. Only after its completion did the order settle down here for good.
