Capilla de san Rocha

Nombre local: Kaplica św. Rocha

The chapel, famous for its favors and healings, is located in the St. Roch. Its characteristic wooden architecture refers to the traditional Zakopane architecture. The original chapel was destroyed in 1935 by a fallen tree. In 1943 it was rebuilt in the Zakopane style.

The chapel of Saint Roch - the patron saint of people suffering from infectious diseases - was built in the 17th century during the plague epidemic. The money for the construction was provided by Queen Marysieńka - Maria Kazimiera d'Arquien - wife of Jan III Sobieski.

In 1863, one of the skirmishes of the January Uprising took place near the chapel. Its description - made by an eyewitness - can be read inside the building. There is also a small spring in its immediate vicinity, which local legends attribute healing properties to.
