Plaza principal de Kalisz

Nombre local: Główny Rynek w Kaliszu

The Main Market Square in Kalisz stands at the intersection of 10 streets. It was built in the 13th century. It is home to the most important historical monuments of the city, such as the town hall, the cathedral of St. Nicholas the Bishop, Church of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and martyr and the remains of the city walls.

Kalisz was largely destroyed during the First World War, so most of the buildings around the square date back to the 1920s and 1930s. The Neo-Renaissance town hall was also rebuilt at that time. On its tower there is now a vantage point from which you can observe the panorama of the entire city.

When visiting the market square, it is worth taking a closer look at the tenement houses around it. On one of them there are bas-reliefs depicting four famous inhabitants of Kalisz - Maria Konopnicka, Adam Asnyk, Maria Dąbrowska and Stefan Szolec-Rogoziński.
