The Gothic monastery of the Bernardine Fathers is one of the oldest Bernardine convents in Poland. The monastery church is a sanctuary, blessed Rafał from Proszowice. The monastery vaults, where about 430 people are buried (monks, but also, for example, January insurgents), are extremely interesting. In the monastery gardens, post-German bunkers from World War II have also been excavated.
The monastery and the church were built in the second half of the 15th century. The square for the construction of the monastery was donated by the wealthy Świętosław Darmopych, but the proper founder is Father Gerard of Brudzewo. The convent was taken over by the Bernardines in 1467.
In the area of the church and monastery, there are also extremely valuable frescoes made with plant paints, at the beginning of the 16th century. Their author is brother Franciszek from Sieradz.
