The ruins are the remains of the seat of the Pałuk family built in the 15th century. Situated on the lake shore, the structure is available for viewing from the outside. Fragments of the castle have survived to the present day: walls, a roofed tower (secured with concrete ceilings), a cylindrical tower with a loophole and a part of the gate.
Throughout history, the building served as a stronghold and a noble residence of various families. Archaeological research was carried out in the fortifications, during which seventeenth-century graves were discovered.
There is a legend related to the castle in Gołańcza about the castellan Hanka, who died by suicide during the Swedish Deluge. Depending on the version of the story, her act was supposed to be the result of despair caused by the surrender of the fortress or a way to avoid marriage with an enemy officer. The girl's ghost is to appear every year, on the eve of Midsummer, in the waters of a nearby lake.
