The oldest brick church in Zakopane. The building has a very original, neo-Romanesque shape. Its interior is decorated with valuable polychromes and stained glass windows. The church has been a sanctuary since 2016, being both a place of worship and a pilgrimage destination, as well as an attraction visited by tourists.
The Church of the Holy Family is a project of architect Józef Dziekoński. The foundations for its construction were laid by Fr. Józef Stolaryczk - the first parish priest of Zakopane, and at the same time an outstanding mountaineer. The building was erected largely thanks to the dedication and help of local highlanders. Local, mountain stone was used to build the church.
The polychromes and stained glass windows inside the church are the work of Janusz Kotarbiński, a painter, artist and culture lover of Podhale. In 1899, the Chapel of John the Baptist was added to the building, according to the design of Stanisław Witkiewicz, in the Zakopane style. The image of the saint in it is supposed to have the features of the artist himself.
