Palacio en Drogosze

Nombre local: Pałac w Drogoszach

It is one of the three largest, the so-called royal palaces, palaces of East Prussia and the largest palace in Masuria. It was built in the baroque style with classicist elements in the years 1710–1714, as the seat of the Prussian noble family of von Dönhoff. Today the palace is in private hands and unfortunately it is not used. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape park from the 19th century.

Over the years, the residence has been rebuilt several times. Around 1889, a mausoleum was erected on the property, with the sarcophagi of the last of the Dönhoff family. After World War II, the furnishings of the palace, which included valuable works of art, were stolen. A small part of the collection that was saved was donated to the Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

In the immediate vicinity of the palace, utility rooms were also built, including brickyards, stables and a historic granary, which unfortunately burned down at the beginning of 2020.
