Sola is one of the most famous holiday resorts in Norway. It has an almost 5 km long sandy beach which, due to the prevailing conditions, is very popular among windsurfing enthusiasts.

The origins of the city date back to the 9th century and the battles fought in the area between the then contenders for the throne of the uniting Norway. The first church was built here in the 10th century, and two centuries later it was replaced with a brick building. Today you can see its ruins, which are the most important monument of the city.

The main attraction of Soli is the local beach. Exposed to the westerly winds, it is considered one of the prettiest in Scandinavia. It is appreciated by fans of windsurfing and water sports, and every summer it is visited by crowds of people who want to relax by the water.

During World War II, Sola was home to one of the most important German airports in this part of Europe. The town was strongly fortified, and the remains of the fortifications can be seen, among others, next to the beach. In the seaplane hangar there is now the Aviation Museum in Soli, where you can see restored planes from the Second World War and their equipment.
