Pieve di San Giorgio

Nombre local: Chiesa di Pieve di San Giorgio

The early medieval church was built in the 7th or 8th century on the site of an older pagan temple. It is an important example of Romanesque architecture in Verona. The church was rebuilt in the 11th century. At the beginning of the 12th century, a cloister was added, consisting of three colonnades, well preserved to modern times.

Inside the temple, the original frescoes dating back to the 11th-14th centuries have survived in fairly good condition. Christ surrounded by the apostles, the baptism of Christ and the Last Supper. It is also worth paying attention to the historic ciborium, now used as the main altar.

The archaeological and ethnographic museum adjoins the temple. You can see exhibitions on local traditions and customs, as well as works of art from different eras, as well as ancient Roman sculptures and inscriptions
