Oranmore Castle is a medieval fortified residential tower on the coast of County Galway. The square, four-story building has two towers at the facade. The castle is in private hands and it is opened occasionally.
The stronghold was built between the 13th and 15th centuries. It was a fortress owned by the Burke family and played a major role in the defense of Galway during the anti-British rebellion of the 1740s.
In 1945, the castle was bought by Lady Leslie for her daughter, the writer Anita. Currently, it is in the hands of her granddaughter Leonie and her husband, the acclaimed musician Alec Finna De Danann. The interiors of the castle are adapted to the organization of receptions. They can be rented. It is possible to visit it several times a month.
