Skiathos is an island in the Sporades archipelago, known not only for its nice beaches and charming island climate, but also for the setting of the famous movie Mamma Mia! with Meryl Streep.
The island is now primarily a tourist and holiday destination with numerous hotels, guesthouses and apartments for rent. The most famous hotel is Skiathos Palace Hotel, which hosts the richest tourists from all over the world.
The island's capital is Skiathos Town, situated on two hills separated by the waters of a small bay. Above each part, above the tiled roofs of white houses, rises a church. The port in the middle is full of pubs, taverns and bars. From here you can also go on excursions along the shores of the island.
The beaches on Skiathos are small, mostly rocky, although there are also exceptions like the most famous Koukounaries covered with golden sand. The Lalaria Beach, situated at the foot of picturesque rocks, is also appreciated, known for its white gravel, which beautifully contrasts with the blue of the water. The beaches in the fashionable Agia Paraskevi resort are also nice.
The attractions of Skiathos, in addition to the beaches and the possibility of relaxing by the sea, also include small churches and monasteries scattered in various places. One of the most famous is the Monastery of Evangelistria.
