Woodbridge is a historic and tourist town on the River Deben, close to its confluence with the sea. The area is known for archaeological discoveries from Saxon times, and a lot of historic buildings have been preserved in the town.
The area of Woodbridge was a thriving center of settlement as early as the 6th century. This is evidenced by the archaeological sites that are located here. The most important of these is Sutton Hoo, a 6th-7th century burial ground where a barrow with a buried boat was found, along with lots of armor, armor, pieces of armor, jewelry and ceramics. Next to the stand there is an exhibition room in which the monuments found here are presented.
Woodbridge Center is a mixture of buildings from the Tudor and the 19th century. The narrow streets have retained their historical character to this day. The city's pride are two 19th century windmills, Buttrum's Mill and Tricker's Mill. One of the few remaining flow mills in England is located slightly off the beaten track.
During World War II there was an RAF base near Woodbridge. Currently, there is a small aviation museum, 493rd Debach Airfield.
Although Woodbridge is not by the sea, it is very close to the coast. A big attraction for those who come to Woodbridge is the diverse Suffolk & Heaths Coast. It includes pebble beaches, salt marshes, moorlands, meadows and groves with numerous hiking and cycling paths. In many places you can also observe water and mud birds.
