Cleethorpes is a resort town in the estuary of the Humber River. Since the 19th century, it has been developing as a thriving resort with a pier, recreational areas and a sandy beach.

The mouth of the Humber River has been inhabited continuously since the 6th century. However, until the 19th century there was only a small fishing village with a port of local importance. It was only the fashion for relaxation by the sea and trips to the coast that made the development of Cleethorpes start. Together with the first tourists, there were guesthouses, a promenade, and in the following years also the pier, which is still one of the main meeting places for holidaymakers.

Today's Cleethorpes is a popular seaside town that attracts with its wide, sandy beaches. Right above them is the promenade that stretches all the way to the pier and the Cleethorpes Pier Gardens next to the gardens. A big attraction of Cleethorpes is the lake where you can go boating. Flocks of ducks, geese and swans also live above it.

From the nineteenth century, you can use a miniature train in the village, which takes you close to popular sunbathing spots. There is also the Jungle Zoo, a small private zoo with animals from Europe and Africa. For those who like hiking, go for walks along the coast. The ruins of Ross Castle stand on low cliffs, which are also used for outdoor events and celebrations.
