Strečno is a village at the foot of the Mala Luczańska Fatra, known for the preserved ruin of a medieval castle rising on a rock above the buildings.

The town has its roots in the Middle Ages, and at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries Mateusz Czak built his castle here, which due to its location was considered an impregnable fortress. Today, Strečno Castle is the biggest attraction of the village. It houses an exhibition presenting the history of the fortress. The castle is also a great viewpoint over the Żylińska Basin.

Another landmark in the area is the monument to the French fighting in the Slovak Uprising standing on a hill.
