Čachtice is a small town that is accompanied by the fame of Elizabeth Bathory, known as the Blood Countess. There are ruins of a castle in which she allegedly committed numerous murders.

Built in the 13th century, Čachtice Castle belonged to the fortification system of the western border of the Kingdom of Hungary. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, Elżbieta Batory lived there. According to reports, she was supposed to murder about 600 girls and use their blood for bathing in order to preserve their beauty.

Today, the ruins of Čachtice Castle are the most important attraction of the village. They stand on a hill with a walking trail leading to them. The castle walls offer a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
