Targovishte is a city known primarily for one of the largest glass factories in Europe. It is located at the foot of Stara Planina and hides several interesting museums.
The areas occupied by the city today have been inhabited since the Thracian times. At the beginning of the 21st century, the ruins of a Roman trading settlement were also discovered here. Today, excavations are still underway on its site.
During the Turkish occupation, the city was an important trade center, mainly aimed at selling animals and handicrafts. Today, this history is reminded of three museums, the History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, where you can learn about the everyday life of the inhabitants of the surrounding towns and mountain valleys, and the Regional History Museum.
Due to the proximity of the Targovishte mountains, it can also be a starting point for active tourism. One of the more popular excursion destinations is the Boaz Waterfall. In the city itself you can also use the Blue Magic Aquapark.
