Gradačac is a town famous for its magnificent fortress from the Turkish times. It defended the Turkish-Austrian border on the nearby Sawa River.

Already in the Middle Ages, there was a castle on a hill above the town. It was destroyed as a result of the Turkish invasions. On the ruins of the castle, the Turks built their own fortress, within which there was a clock tower, a mosque demolished by the Austrians at the end of the 19th century, and farm buildings. Currently, there is a museum in the former stronghold, and some of the buildings are occupied by a school.

In the city below the stronghold, you can see the Hussein Mosque and the monument to soldiers killed in World War II.
