Lošinj Museum

Local name: Lošinjski muzej

Lošinjski Muzej is an establishment with several branches. The head office is located in Fritzy Palace in Mali Lošinj, where the so-called a collection of old masters, which includes 27 paintings of Italian painters, created from the 16th to the 20th century. Next to it you can also see about 50 works (painting and drawing) of Croatian artists.

The department in Osor exhibits the archaeological collection. It comes from the private collection of the Bishop of Osor, whose collection was initiated by the purchase of ancient statues in 1771. Currently, the museum has extensive archaeological documentation of the history of Osor from prehistoric times to the late Middle Ages. The most valuable are collections of ceramics, glass and numismatic items.

Gallery Tower in Veli Lošinj, located in a defensive structure of the fifteenth century, presents the maritime traditions of the island - you can see items related to traditional sailing and fishing. Next to them is a replica of the ancient Greek sculpture Apoxiomenos - a bronze wrestler figure found on the seabed near the island of Vele Orjule.
